We're A Little Bit Different
Three things make Apraku Psychiatry a little bit different:

All of the credentials. None of the stereotype.
Board-certified and licensed in multiple states. Abena Apraku, M.D. is a specialist in psychiatry and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She completed her specialty training at Drexel University, where she was also Chief Resident, and earned a doctor in medicine degree from Ross University. With credentials to treat patients across eight states, Dr. Apraku believes that tele-psychiatry has great potential to reach under-served populations. Friendly, informal and empathetic. Psychiatrists can sometimes seem aloof - in an ivory tower of neuroscience and psychopharmacology. But Dr. Apraku believes that medical science and friendliness should go hand-in-hand. With a down-to-earth approach, she aims to connect with the human inside the patient. |

Our PhilosophyHealthy minds. Science. Hope.
The human brain is the most complex object in the known universe. It is extraordinarily robust, but also fragile. The promise of psychiatry is that fragility can be managed. With evidence-based treatment, patients can lead fulfiling lives. This idea is symbolized in our logo, which shows that an imperfect circle can be beautiful. Apraku Psychiatry does not aim for a perfect circle, but a beautiful one. |
Conditions Treated
Slow Medicine
Let's take our time.
Pressured by insurance companies, many providers practice "fast medicine", with evaluations limited to 30-45 minutes and follow-ups 10-15 minutes. Instead, we take our time. Our appointments are twice as long. The result: a more thorough diagnosis and personalized care.
Self-knowledge is power.
Knowledge about what ails you is often the first step to overcoming it. Psycho-education is therefore integral to the healing process. Thanks to double-length appointments, we take time to guide you through the neuroscience underlying your condition.

With traditional brick-and-mortar practices, moving can mean having to find a new psychiatrist. Given the national shortage of psychiatrists, that's often very difficult. Even if you find one, care can be disrupted.
With us, moving within state makes no difference. Likewise, nothing changes if you're heading to one of our other practice states. As long as you're located in one of these states during each appointment, we're good to go. |

Continuity of Care
Psychiatry is a science ...
The living brain functions as an intricate interplay of neurons, transmitters and receptors. A psychiatrist's job is to choreograph this electrifying dance. Thanks to scientific advances, psychiatrists now know how to help the brain move to a more harmonious tune.
... but it's also an art
Psychiatry isn't just about neuroscience. Effective treatment is founded on mutual trust and understanding. At Apraku Psychiatry, our goal is to build long-lasting relationships to get your mental health as good as it can be.
